PRINCIPLE Polymyxin B or polymyxin E is an antibiotic against Gram-negative bacteria with a bactericidal effect. It has a strong antibacterial effect on most Gram-negative bacteria, and is more effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It also has a good inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella dysenteriae, Bordetella influenzae, Bordetella pertussis, Enterobacter aerogenes and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
